Thanks so much Kelli!  It's always fun to chat with you.  I also want to thank Kelli for our chats before/after our main Handmade U chat.  Kelli is one of the most thoughtful and helpful gals I chat with, she always have great advice and helpful tips on business, life and stuff in general.  I just want you to know Kelli I really appreciate you! xo

I've been keeping busy sewing away stocking ShopHandmadeU on etsy with lots of fun Zipper Pouches made from my favorite vintage quilt finds!  Snatch one up when you see one you like, they aren't staying in the shop long! Of course each style is one of a kind and limited in how many each quilt will make too!

Every purchase from my shop goes directly into our Adoption Fund!  We are in the midst of the paperwork for the home study and our Family profile.  It's just a matter of time before we welcome our child home!  We can't wait!

Day 4 - The Power of Words with Christine Mason Miller

Welcome to Day 4 of our Handmade U Conversation Series on the Power of Words! Not only did I pick beautiful jewelry makers who use words in their art, I also chose women who not only have a way with words, but have written wonderful books and even taught others to do the same. Christine Mason Miller is back this month to chat with me on the Power of Words and I'm excited to share this one with you!

Christine is an author and artist who has been encouraging others to create a meaningful life through her art, books, classes and retreats for more than 20 years.  You can find what she's up to over here on her website. Also find her on IG @swirlygirl18.

Grab a tea and listen in:  (sorry for the bit of feedback the first couple minutes, it gets better ;)

It was a pleasure to chat once again with Christine.  I really love her words too that we talked about - Choices and Discernment.  So good.  Do you see how they might work for you too?  Think about why you love the words you do, what are the experiences and feelings behind them?

Try Christine's idea of listing all the words and using them to make questions and sentences, I love this idea and am excited to try it!

Thanks again to Christine for joining once again!

xoxo,
Rachel

Day 3 - The Power of Words with Malary Hansen

Hi Everyone!

Today's chat is with my special guest Malary Hansen.  I met Malary when she was still in high school, 6 or 7 years ago!  It has been fun to see her grow into a wife, new mom and now business owner.

Malary is a young wife and mama who believes that love matters most. She enjoys cooking and baking healthful foods, spending time with her daughter and husband, being in the mountains, and creating beautiful things. She recently started her business, Malary Brette Designs-- an online shop with uplifting jewelry, and soon more!

Come take a listen to our chat below:

Power of Words with Malary Hansen from Rachel McGough on Vimeo.

It was great to talk with her about how words are impacting her life with her Word of the Year, and the words she is stamping on beautiful jewelry she makes for her customers in her business Malary Brette Designs.  Find her shop HERE.  ( I fell in love with the earrings she was wearing, which she made, so I ordered a pair after our chat!)

With GROW as her word of the year, it is easy to see how much she has grown, and exciting to know she has more dreams and goals to grow even more.

Will you take her recommendation and find a little time here and there to get quiet and think about how you are feeling?  How do you want to be feeling?  Are those the same?  What words are popping up as you consider this?  Keep tabs on those words and see how they can help influence your life, the choices you make and moving you towards your dreams.

This past year she has solely focused on on-line Photoshop classes and graphic design work.

Find Pamela on her website http://www.pamelahuntington.com

Pamela was a treat to chat with, please enjoy our conversation!

Putting Yourself Out There with Pamela Huntington from Rachel McGough on Vimeo.

Like so many of us Pamela describes putting yourself out there as getting over your fear and getting over the thinking that you can't do it. You just have to bring your best self forth. When you can focus on others and how putting yourself out there can help them, that can help get you out of your own head!

It is such a good reminder to think that everyone has bad moments, or days, but you can't give up, you just have to keep going. You may stumble, but get back up and try again. Also don't give up on other people. Be that one to keep asking, keep nudging, keep encouraging your friends and family to put their best selves out there. You never know if you could nudge them into the best decision of their lives!

Keep in mind these wise words Pamela shares with us..."Always know in your heart where you want to go."

Good thought to ponder over the weekend....we'll be digging more into that thought in the Companion course :)

Happy Weekend!

Now go be creative!!

Rachel

Day 10: Putting Yourself Out There with Jenny Doh

Hi!

It's the middle of the week and I'm thinking you might need a dose of inspiration today to keep going! I'm sharing with you today a great, thought-provoking chat I had with the incomparable Jenny Doh of Crescendoh.

In her words:
"Regarding my paintings, a person once told me that she liked my "whimsical angst." I really like that description and am happy to classify my painting style as such. I also like to describe my style as "magical realism," where I celebrate the essence and not just the likeness of my subjects from both my real life and imagined life.

I also run Studio Crescendoh in the Artist Village located in Santa Ana, California, where I teach painting and fiber arts and also show my works there. I also host visiting artists who teach their art in the studio to learners who travel from all over to participate."

You can find Jenny over on her blog/website HERE to see what she is painting, what classes she is offering in her Studio Crescendoh and so much more! Also follow her on IG @jennydoh

Come listen to our chat:

Putting Yourself Out There with Jenny Doh & Handmade U from Rachel McGough on Vimeo.

Lots to consider and think about right? I am interested in taking a look at the books Jenny mentioned:

I love the idea of letting the audience in on a story. Don't we all enjoys things more when we know the secrets behind what is put out there?! From understanding why an artist created her most recent masterpiece, or what her process is, the early works, etc. It all adds to our connection with those putting themselves out there.

I appreciate Jenny's idea of being honest with where you are TODAY, and to put work out there TODAY. It will be shared as part of a long line of work and how great will it be to see the progress to come. Just try it and as Jenny said "Put out an honest nugget". See where it takes you and the connections that will come.

Also the idea of sharing specific, honest, and real bits of yourself is pretty liberating isn't it? All you have to be in you, and you don't have to figure out this WHOLE BIG THING to share, just start small and be open. As Jenny said, never under-estimate the importance of those mundane things you think don't matter, because they do.

Thanks so much Jenny for your wisdom and shared thoughts!

Now go be creative,
xox

Day 6: Putting Yourself Out There with Hope Ellington & Handmade U

Hi Everyone!

Happy Weekend!  Today's Special Guest is Hope Ellington.  Hope opened Girlfriends on the Farm in 2012 on her farm in an antique Blacksmith shop.  She has 22 unique and talented artists and collectors of vintage and antique items that fill her shop.  Creating has been an integral part of her life, rarely is there not an idea looming away in her mind.  She lives in Bloomington, IN.

You can find Hope at her etsy shop HopeEllingtonDesigns
on IG @hopeellingtondesigns
Her website is www.hope-ellington.squarespace.com

Come listen to Hope's conversation with me while she is hanging out at the County FAIR!!

Putting Yourself Out There with Hope Ellington from Rachel McGough on Vimeo.

It makes me want to run over to a fair and have a corndog does it for you too??

Thanks Hope for joining us today!! I loved our chat and hearing about how you created such a fun shop and space for women to help them put themselves out there too! We really do inspired people to step outside their comfort zones when we take those steps to do it for ourselves.

I like how Hope summarized that there are times in our lives that we don't feel great about ourselves, that we might not measure up, and sometimes it takes digging into those things that are holding us back, doing the work to improve those situations, and then the sky is the limit once we have the confidence!

Have the courage, take a small step today, contact a magazine, reach out to someone that has inspired you, connect.

Have a wonderful rest of your weekend!! Thanks HOPE!!

Now go be creative,

Day 5 : Putting Yourself Out There with Kolleen Harrison

Hi All!

Today is Day 5 and we are working through the month chatting about Putting ourselves out there with some amazing women.  Today's special guest is Kolleen Harrison.   Kolleen is the founder of LOVEWild and creator of Mahabba Beads.... A mama, a maker, a lover of love.

I enjoyed this chat with Kolleen so much! She talks about creatively putting yourself out there, and finding the courage to just do it. Take a listen!

Putting Yourself Out There with Kolleen Harrison and Handmade U from Rachel McGough on Vimeo.

It is the simplest and best advice just to DO IT! I also love the added recommendation from Kolleen to not put any expectations around it. It is pretty freeing when we let ourselves just put something out in the world without the worry that we won't get 100 LIKES, or no sales, or people will wonder what the heck we are doing, just put it out there and see what happens. Whatever the outcome you will see that it'll be easier the next time you put yourself out there, and it'll keep getting easier the more you do it.

Also Kolleen's thoughts about starting a blank canvas and knowing you won't be forced to show anyone! Just do it for you, and then you can decide if you want to share it later!

I am definitely in favor, based on personal experience, of her suggestion of putting yourself out there in a LIVE in person retreat. There isn't much of a stronger chance to find lasting friendships than circling with women who are looking for a similar experience.

Whether it is a creative retreat or whatever type of event calls to you, if you feel that pull, GO! Click SUBMIT and get your booty there. You will love it. You won't imagine all the good things that will come from that one brave moment of signing up.

I also love the thoughts Kolleen shared on following and trusting. Sometimes we don't know where our creativity or pulls will take us, we just need to trust that they won't lead us astray. Listen to your Inner Guide. Be true to your compass.

And in the words of Kolleen's husband - One sure way to FAIL, it to not TRY!

Thanks so much Kolleen for joining us today!! Such great wisdom!!

Now go be creative,

xox

Day 3 : Putting Yourself Out There with Christine Mason Miller

Day 3 brings us a wonderful conversation with Christine Mason Miller.  Christine is an author and artist who has been encouraging others to create a meaningful life through her art, books, classes and retreats for more than 20 years.  You can find what she's up to over here on her website. Also find her on IG @swirlygirl18.

I am loving this topic of conversation, it really broadens our minds to think of the areas in our lives where we can put ourselves out there.  Often we see others doing something we think is big and we think WOW how do they have the courage to put themselves out there in public, but digging deeper with this topic can bring up the fact that to them, that big thing is the easy part, other areas of their lives may really be where they need to focus on the true putting themselves out there.

Here is what I mean:

Putting Yourself Out There with Christine Mason Miller from Rachel McGough on Vimeo.

Thanks so much to Christine for sharing.  Again a page of notes, and my favorite bits of wisdom I took away are these:

Be Honest, Be Vulnerable

Trust can be the hurdle, and when you trust you can move forward

Don't worry about failing, it is just part of the process

Go Big or Go Home!

What we want is a lot closer than we realize.

Adjusting perspective can be a great key in getting to where you want to be.

You inspiring others my your putting yourself out there can have an enormous ripple effect.

Every Single Step Matter.

Great conversation, with a great person, thanks Christine, I enjoyed it so much.

So how are you putting yourself out there??  Or what area of your life are you trying to build the courage to PYOT?!?

Now go be creative,
